Swayambhunath dates back to 460 A.D., built by king Manadeva. Located on a small hillock, Swayambhunath is also known as the Monkey Temple. The temple is situated northwest of Kathmandu valley and offers a panoramic view of Kathmandu from the top. Swayambhunath is one of its kind in Nepal. A Series of steep stone steps leads to the top of the temple. Around the temple, there are many small shrines and monasteries too.
Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath temple offers a vibrant mix of religious, cultural, and spiritual experiences. The temple is situated three kilometers northwest of Kathmandu on the bank of the Bagmati River. It is one of the four most important religious sites in Asia for devotees of Shiva. The temple dates back to the 5th century and was later renovated by the Malla kings.
In Nepal, it is the largest temple complex. Only Hindus are allowed to enter the main temple. The main temple is built in pagoda style with exquisite wood carvings, a golden roof, and four sides covered in silver. There are many other small shrines and temples around the premises dedicated to several other deities.
Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath Stupa is the largest stupa in Nepal, which is situated 8 km east of downtown Kathmandu. The stupa is 36 meters high, built in the shape of a mandala. The structure is a replica of the Gyangtse in Tibet, renovated by Licchhavi rulers in the 8th century. Back in the day, this place used to be the trade route.
Boudhanath stupa is one of the significant Buddhist tourist sites around the world, visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. On each side, there are seeing eyes of the Buddha that symbolizes awareness and protection over the city. There are many old monasteries around the stupa. The energy here is immaculate and soothing. Butter lamps, the humming sound of mantras, fluttering prayer flags, and the revitalizing fragrance of incense make the tour marvelous.

Kathmandu has three durbar squares- Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square. All of these durbar squares used to be a royal residence of three different kings back in time. The durbar squares have palaces, courtyards, shrines, temples, and museums.
