Blue Sheep
Blue sheep are also known as Bharal. For your information, this Himalayan animal is neither a sheep nor blue in color. The male (60-75 kg) is larger than the female (35-45 kg). The adult males have large, backward-sweeping horns, which usually are over 50 cm long and weigh 7-9 kg. Compared to this, female blue sheep have relatively small horns.
Talking about the behavior of blue sheep, it is a mix of sheeplike and goatlike patterns. In treeless slopes, alpine meadows, and shrub zones above the treeline, you can see blue sheep in groups. Likewise, they are usually spotted on hillsides with grasses and near cliffs.
Other than the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, you can find blue sheep in Manang Kanchenjunga, Darchula, Dolpa, Manaslu, and many other regions in Nepal.
Blue Sheep Hunting in Autumn
October and November are excellent months of the year for Blue Sheep hunting because of the stable weather and moderate climate. The temperature varies from 7°C to 19°C. The weather is not too hot or cold. Still, we recommend you carry a few winter pieces to keep yourself warm. The temperature can drop to 5°C above 2,000 meters in the morning and night.
The views are clear and breathtaking in October. The changing color of forests and flowers makes the surroundings charming. You can see many trekkers along the way, relishing the gorgeous beauty of the snow-capped mountains.
November starts with the more chilled wind. The warm daytime makes you feel cozy while trekking. The air carries a unique freshness in it, the freshness of the Himalayas, and every single breath suddenly becomes relaxing.
Blue Sheep Hunting in Spring
March to April is the season of flowers and lush vegetation. The entire hunting reserve bloomed up with a range of flora. As the climate begins to warm up, you can easily spot wildlife. The trail gets covered with colorful flowers, and crisp air soothes the hunter's soul.
The temperature ranges between 16°C to 5°C. During blue sheep hunting, you may ascend above 5000 meters where temperature can get below 0°C at night and morning. Again the weather remains stable, and moderate climatic conditions makes hunting blue sheep in March and April fantastic.
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve

The hunting reserve is packed with forests of rhododendron, pine, fir, birch, hemlock, oak, juniper, and several other vegetation. Blue Sheep Hunting
Blue sheep hunting is a high altitude trip, therefore weather and climate matter a lot to determine the success and failure of the venture. While traversing above 5,000 meters, the weather has to be stable so that you can safely complete the trek. And Spring & Autumn has it, which makes this season an ideal choice for hunting in the Himalayas.
One thing you have to be careful of is the itinerary you follow during the hunt. Even with the best climatic conditions, don't forget it is a high-altitude trek, and there is always a lingering chance of altitude sickness.
Therefore, you have to make sure the blue sheep hunting itinerary you are following has enough acclimatization days. These rest days between the itinerary not only allow you to adjust to the altitude but also allow you to enjoy nature.
We offer the best 15 days blue sheep hunting package to our guests. Likewise, we also make tailor-made itineraries for travelers who want something different.
We also offer the best Himalayan Tahr Hunting and Combo Hunting (Blue Sheep and Himalayan Tahr).
