Champadevi is the third highest hill (2,278 m) around Kathmandu valley, located in the southwestern part of the city. Champadevi Hiking is a famous one-day hiking activity. It is an easy and fun hike that begins from Pharphing village, on the way, to the holy Dakshinkali Temple. From the starting point of the hike, you have to hike for 2 to 3 hours to reach the top of the ridge.
The trail goes through lush pine forests and offers fantastic views of Himalayan mountains like Mt. Langtang Lirung, Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Gauri Shankar, Mt. Dorje Lakpa, etc. Likewise, the top also offers a panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley.
There are a couple of routes that take to the top of Champa Devi. The easiest one is from the north of Pharping up to the Hattiban Resort. The trail is trodden, leads northwest through verdant forests and grassy ridges. Another Champadevi Hiking route goes beyond Taudaha and ascends westwards along the dirt roads to the ridge above Hattiban Resort. The trail begins west of the Bajra Yogini temple.
